Chef Jamie's recipe will warm up a cold winter evening!

This recipe serves 10 to 12.

Ingredients:
1 large orange
2 tablespoons mulling spices, in a tea bag or wrapped in cheesecloth
3 tablespoons chopped crystallized ginger
1/2 cup granulated sugar, divided
2 bottles (750 ml) dry red wine
1/4 cup orange-flavored liqueur
Thin orange slices, for garnish

Directions:
Using a vegetable peeler, peel 8 thin strips of zest from the orange. Juice the orange and reserve the juice.

In a nonreactive saucepan, press the orange zest and sugar with a wooden spoon to release the oils from the zest.
Add the reserved orange juice, wine and mulling spice packet.
Cover and bring the wine to a simmer over high heat, about 5 minutes.
Discard spice packet and orange zest.

To serve, stir in the liqueur and more sugar to taste.
Ladle into heatproof glasses and garnish with orange slices.
